Crochet Bow Headband
A quick and easy pattern for a pretty headband.
I've recently become quite a crochet addict. It's a great activity for lazy evenings in front of the telly, and actually doing something with my hands makes me feel a bit less guilty for being lazy. It's also a great idea for homemade Christmas pressies, and I'm churning out quite a few! My favourite crochet pattern for presents for girls is the Crochet Head Band as it's really quick to make and it's pretty cute too.
I use a 4mm crochet hook with standard double ply yarn, although feel free to use chunkier wool and just up the size of your hook.
Notes for the pattern:
ch: chain stitch
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
. Begin with 75 ch (this will vary depending on the size of head and thickness of yarn)
. Turn, ch 3
. Dc into 2nd stitch from hook, continue to end and turn. Repeat for 5 more rows until you have a thick strip. Tie off and cut yarn.
. Sew ends together, (either using sc or a yarn needle) and you have your basic headband.
. To make the bow front, you need to make a 'scrunch' at the front of your band. To do this, make 2 stitches about 15 dc apart and sew rows 2 - 5 together in both stitches. This will pull the band together slightly at the front of the band.
. For the bow, ch 10-12 and dc approximately 15 rows (or enough until it will wrap fairly loosely around the front of the band. Tie off and sew together around the front of the band.
. Voila! You should have a lovely snug headband to see you stylishly through those winter months.
Emma :) xx
