Bubbub's easy peasy Jam Buns

A family recipe for tasty jammy buns!

My very first post is going to go down the more traditional route of a recipe that has been handed down to me from a family member. 'Bubbub' is the affectionate name I gave to my grandmother as a very small child, as it was infinitely easier to pronounce than 'Grandma'. Visits to Bubbub's house as a child often focused around traditional formats such as going on country walks with the dogs, or, when the Devonshire weather inevitably let us down, baking. On one of these occasions, Bubbub dug out an ancient recipe book and we got to work creating some delicious Jam Buns. This is an incredibly easy recipe, and has very little preparation time.

You will need:

8 oz self raising flour (yes, these ingredients are in 'olden days' measurements)
4 oz sugar
3 oz butter
1 pinch of salt
Jam
A few drops of Vanilla essence
Milk to bring dough together

. Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees C.

.Begin with weighing out your ingredients and sieve the flour into a mixing bowl. Add the butter, sugar and salt and rub together until a breadcrumb like consistency.
. Add the vanilla essence.
. Make a well in the middle of the mixture and slowly add milk whilst stirring to bring the mixture to a dough.
. Take pieces of the mixture and roll into small balls (remember you're using self raising flour so the buns will increase in size). Tip - if you've made the mixture too sticky coat your hand in flour so the mixture doesn't stick to your hands when rolling the balls.
. Using your finger, make a small hole in the middle of each bun and add a small amount of jam. (Be careful not to overfill as the jam will bubble over during cooking)
.It's as simple as that! Bake the buns for approximately 15 minutes, or until they have gone a nice golden colour.
. Dig in!

I hope you enjoy these tasty, easy buns. They're a great idea to knock up if you have a short notice tea party, or fancy a sweet treat with minimal effort.

Emma :) xx
